WHAMbulance Main Menu (2022)

I got to return to a great team while working on this game jam project. Jams are a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and try out new skills. I worked on creating my first inorganic 3D models and maintained a kanban board for our team, mainly by just making sure team members were all on the same page and communicating.

The game itself was a 3D strategy game designed in 48 hours. I created it with three programmers, myself, and another artist. The concept is about an evil ambulance that needs injured patrons. The WHAMbulance runs over pedestrians and takes them to the hospital in order to get patients. Each delivery earns more money which can be spent on power-ups for speed, damage, and carrying capacity. 

For this project, I also designed 3D characters based on team members, animated them with Mixamo, and created aesthetic low-poly environment assets. I also often checked in on the programmers to facilitate which mechanics would make the time cut, and which wouldn't so we could focus on designing the most effective prototype possible.

 

Now, updating this page over a year later, I'm pleased to say we had such a fun time we have remained friends and completed over three other game jams together!

Gameplay

It's simple! 

  • Pick up patients and take them to the hospital before they die to earn money!

  • Hit people along the way and make sure the hospital still needs your services.

  • Buy upgrades at the hospital to improve your speed and carrying capacity.

  • Don't let your victims succumb to their injuries before their timer runs out! You'll lose a ton of money.

  • When you've saved everyone you've won!

Game Pillars

  • Have a responsive driving simulator.

  • In order to make money, pedestrians must be hit by an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
